What Makes a Photographer a True Professional?

I came across an article today that was a very interesting read. It was meant to be shown to photographers, but I actually feel this is a good read for the public to clue them in on the industry of photography. Let’s face it, custom photography is not cheap!

Why go to a photographer *cough, cough* who charges $50 for an 8×10 when you can hop onto a place like Craigslist and get a whole session for $50 that includes 100’s of high resolution images on CD that includes a full copyright? With all the new fancy cameras out now, why not just go out and buy your own Canon Rebel for $500 and take your own pics?

I’ve been shooting and perfecting my craft for over 20 years now. I’m a great photographer (Not modest am I?), but I’m not the best writer. So I’ve never been very good at trying to explain why there are such differences in the cost in photography. But the truth is, you get what you pay for when it comes to photography.

There is a WORLD of difference between a good portrait studio and a cheap burn and shoot photographer. One excerpt from the article says, “there is always going to be a place for the new pro, the part-timer, and the person who serves special niche markets that can’t afford top of the line products” and I fully believe that. But I also think the public really needs to understand the difference and know what they are getting themselves into. In my opinion, important dates and milestones (weddings, maternity, first birthdays) only come once so you shouldn’t take any chances.

Headshots for Haiti – Feb. 6th, 10:00am to 2:00pm

On February 6th, Once Remembered Photography will be holding a very special charity event to help with Haiti relief. Donate to the Red Cross Haiti relief and get professional headshots taken for your Facebook, Twitter, My Space etc. while donating to Haiti.

Donate $15 and receive 3 web sized files

Donate $75 and receive 3 full sized files

Where: The BAP Studio in downtown Boise
When: Feb. 6th from 10:00am to 2:00pm

Donate $15 and receive 3 web sized files

Files will have our URL stamped on them and will be sized for the web at a max 500 pixels (if that means anything to you, lol)

Donate $75 and receive 3 full sized files

These files are high resolution without our URL. They are printable up to an 8×10 size and you may print them as many times as you like. Our normal price for 3 high resolution files is $450 so this is a great deal AND you get to help Haiti at the same time!

 

 

Details:

  1. Call us to schedule your session time.
  2. Go to the Red Cross site , check the “Haiti Relief and Development”, and pay your donation amount. You can, of course, donate more if you wish. The more we raise the better!
  3. Email us a copy of your receipt to bonnie@onceremembered.com
  4. Read and fill out our online portrait agreement here.
  5. After your sessions, your 3 files will be fully retouched and then emailed to you within 2 weeks.

Once Remembered Photography is participating in the International Charity Model Search to select North America’s Cutest Family and to raise funds for the non-profit Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep Foundation. (NILMDTS.org)

Model Search Special:
$50 entrance fee includes a 30-minute family model session, a $50 print credit, and one image submitted to the national gallery.

Finalists will be determined by online votes. Each vote is $1 (no limit on the amount of votes you can cast), and all proceeds from votes benefit Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep.

Halloween Charity Food Drive – Boise Associated Photographers

Halloween Charity by Once Remembered Photography

Bring your little trick-or-treaters to the studio on October 31st from 10:00am until 3:00pm and receive a 4×5 portrait in exchange for a $5 donation or 3 canned goods.  Appointments are by walk in only so be sure to get there early. Don’t wait until the last minute because the line cuts off promptly at 3:00pm so that we can have time to get our own little monsters ready for Halloween. :)

All donations will go directly to the Idaho Food Bank. To recieve your 4×5 portrait, you must donate at least $5 or bring in 3 canned goods. Dented or expired cans will not be accepted. One 4×5 portrait allowed per family though small packages will be available.  4×5 portraits will be available for pickup at the studio on November 13th.

Studio located in downtown Boise at the Bush Mansion acrodd from Boise High School 1020 W. Franklin St.

Announcing our first annual Once Remembered Photography Holiday Card Day! On Sunday October 11th only, you will receive a mini photo session and 48 5×7 flat cards for $250. This is over a $350 value and is my holiday gift to all of my awesome clients. (note: Additional sets of 24 cards will be available for $30.)

I am able to offer this special pricing on October 11th because individual sessions will be shorter than normal, the studio set up will remain unchanged all day, and card choices have been pre-designed.
